Abstract

The world of intellects is one of the levels of existence that Islamic philosophers have tried to explain. Suhrevardi is also one of the greatest Islamic philosophers, who has spoken about that world in his various works, in the manner of Peripatetics and school of Illumination, which he himself is its leader. He has particular views in explaining the nature of the world of intellects. In addition to his philosophical explanations of the intellects, Suhrevardi has also used the verses of the Qur'an to confirm his views. His philosophical views have had a great influence on his understanding of the Qur'anic verses and have caused him to propose a philosophical commentary and in some cases a philosophical interpretation. In this article, the influence of Suhrevardi's philosophical views about the world of intellects on his understanding of the verses of the Quran has been studied and criticized. For this purpose, all of the Suhrevardi's works have been studied; His Quranic commentaries, which were influenced by the theory of intellects, have been extracted and the manner in which he confirms his views is explained. Then, the above-mentioned commentaries have been comprehensively studied and criticized, using literal meaning, the knowledge of commentary, philosophical views, and related narrative knowledges, and it has been concluded that most of Suhrewardi's commentaries of the verses of the Qur'an, on this issue, are invalid.
