Abstract

What Hume has stated on religious propositions is based on his epistemology. Aiming at tainting natural theology, he presents his critical viewpoints toward these propositions and, based on his experimentalism, introduces the claims of natural theology as outside human doctrinal knowledge (ma‘rifa). Accordingly, this research consists of three main sections, which deal with the impact of Hume’s epistemological opinions on his critiques on the ontological argumentation, cosmological argumentation, and argumentation of order. In this research, Hume’s experimentalism and his views concerning argumentations for proof of God’s existence are not critiqued; because these discourses each require a separate chance to take into consideration. Meanwhile, it is not directly related to the main goal of the present article, i.e., understanding the impact of Hume’s impact on his opinions concerning argumentations for proof of God’s existence. However, if anyone is interested in critique of Hume’s opinions concerning these argumentations, they can use the outcome of this article that indicates the maximal impact of Hume’s experimentalism and undermine these critiques by challenging those epistemological principles.
